Parma went down to an UEFA Cup first leg defeat to Gençlerbirligi at a snowbound Tardini stadium. The Gialloblu lost 1-0 to a goal from Skoko early in the second half.

In a heavy snow storm, Parma lost 1-0 at home to Turkish side Gençlerbirligi in their UEFA Cup third round first leg encounter. It was the sixth European defeat for the Gialloblu at the Tardini stadium and their 21st overall, against a side who were always dangerous on the attack.

The home side, however, enjoyed most of the pressure in the first half, with Degano and Rosina both in fine form. It took a wonderful shot from Skoko on 59 minutes to break the deadlock. The Gençlerbirligi midfielder who is a team-mate of Mark Bresciano in the Australian national team, beat Sebastien Frey from the edge of the area.

Parma continued to dominate after the setback but could create any clear-cut chances to draw the sides level and now face a difficult trip to Turkey next week where Cesare Prandelli's side need to score at least one goal to get back in the tie.
